Summer Holidays to Dubrovnik II – Beaches and Landmarks

Dubrovnik has beautiful beaches and landmarks you shouldn’t miss when having a summer holiday to Dubrovnik.

According to the reports of the European Union, Dubrovnik has exceptionally clean beaches. One of the most popular beaches is Banje, a pebble-covered beach in a very good location, with spectacular view to the old town. The beach of St Jakov is also a popular pebble beach, while the biggest beach of Dubrovnik, Lapad is sandy, equipped with showers and changing rooms, and has cafés, restaurants, tennis courts and playgrounds on it, and is surrounded by natural trees, providing a cool shelter against the scorching sun. Copacabana, named after the famous beach of Rio de Janeiro, is the most popular for tourists. You can try a number of extreme water sports here.

Bell Tower was built in 1444, and got rebuilt in 1928. What has remained from the 15th century form of the 33-metre high tower, is the two-tonne bell. The clock has no arms, it is actually a sundial, showing the time.

The Cathedral of Dubrovnik was built in 1713, on the location of a 12th century cathedral, destroyed by the earthquake. It was renovated in 1986. Archaeologists discovered the remains of an even older, 7th century cathedral in 1981, abolishing the theory that the 12th century cathedral was the first religious facility on this spot.
