Bulgaria's Sprinter Wins European Title
09 Jan 2018

For the first time in history, a short distance sprint event in a European championship awarded a medal to a Bulgarian sprinter: Ivet Lalova from Sofia.

Ivet, also known as the fastest white woman in the world, ran the 100m sprint in 11.28 seconds and thus took the European title at the European Track and Field Championship in Helsinki.

Elsewhere, in Wimbledon, a Bulgarian tennis player, Tsvetana Pironkova gave Russian title favourite Maria Sharapova a hard time by reeling in the break of serve by which Sharapova had led. Pironkova, a Wimbledon semi-finalist two years ago and quarter-finalist last year, threatened to turn the match around, before Sharapova shook off her mid-match blues and raced ahead by a double break.

More news from the world of sports- the Armeets Arena in Sofia will host the Final Round of the 2012 FIVB Volleyball World League this week with the final taking place on Sunday, the 8th July. A total of six countries have made it to the final round after the completion of the international rounds since May. Bulgaria, USA, Germany, Cuba, Poland, and Brazil will compete for the world title in the Bulgarian capital towards the end of this week.

You don’t need to be a world champion to take part in fantastic activity holidays in Bulgaria and enjoy the fantastic sports facilities of either the mountain resorts or the seaside beach towns, as well as the golf courses by the sea or in the mountains.
