When you are on a beach summer holiday in Montenegro it is well worth to look around in the mainland. In pubs of small villages, such as Njegusi, you can try the local cheese (“sir”), ham (“prsut”, similar to Italian prosciutto) and honey wine (mead), for the fraction of the seaside price. These food items, and a red house wine called Vranac, can be purchased at private houses as well from local producers, such as the local version of rakia; just look for the sign outside the houses. The Montenegrin honey wine is called Medovina, and this variant is naturally gently sparkling.
