On the 15th & 16th of February 2014, Borovets will welcome the world's best alpine skiers to the resort to take part in the men's slalom and giant slalom races. This event takes on an extra significance this winter as it is the last training session for the skiers before the start of the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
Besides this major sporting event which again places Borovets on the world map of international competitions, Borovets is also gearing up for the upcoming winter tourist season.
Borosport, operator of the Borovets ski runs, are continuing their large-scale investment program amounting to almost 40m Euro with the introduction of a new electronic contact-less lift access system for the upcoming winter season. This will dramatically increase the speed of passing and will reduce the queuing time at the lifts.
Winter sports enthusiasts will find the resort of Borovets perfect for their next holiday due to the modern system of artificial snow built over the last few years in the ski zones of Sitnyakovo and Yastrebetz, as well as the new snow cannons. The final stretch of ski track "Yastrebetz 1" has also been covered with artificial snow, providing the perfect snow cover for many of the ski runs in resort. The capacity of the pumping station has now doubled allowing for more rapid covering of the ski areas with artificial snow and ensuring a longer, more fulfilling ski season.
For the new season there has also be improvements to the resort's most modern attraction, the Borosport Snow Park. This year the terrain will be located in the upper part of the "Popangelov" ski run which provides more direct access and greater visibility to the virtuoso performances of the masters of freestyle jumping. Although the park will have three zones of difficulty - for beginners, intermediates and expert freestylers, the lighter "family" challenges should prove popular.
As for the thrill-seekers who are not able to regularly visit the park, they will be able to follow what is happening in the park with two webcams installed in the Borosport Snow Park. In total there are nine high-resolution cameras placed around the resort which provide pictures from the ski runs directly to the Borovets website: www.borovets-bg.com. In addition, Borosport maintains five meteo stations in key positions to monitor the weather conditions at all times in order to submit accurate and timely information about weather conditions and the status of the ski runs.
